Buying smart glasses in Switzerland: 7 criteria for choosing well

Searches for smart glasses are soaring in Switzerland, in French as well as in German (“smart glasses kaufen”, “Smartbrille”). Before you take the plunge, here are the 7 criteria that really make the difference.
1. Define your main use
This is the question that rules out the most options:
- Photos, videos, music, everyday AI: camera glasses such as Ray-Ban Meta.
- Sport: a wraparound, hard-wearing model such as the Oakley Meta Vanguard.
- Reading information in the lens: heads-up display glasses.
- Films and games on a big screen: wired display glasses that plug into a device.
2. Camera or no camera?
The camera opens up the most spectacular uses: filming at eye level, asking the AI what you are looking at. But it is not always welcome, at the office or in certain places. Audio models, such as the Ray-Ban Meta Audio Clubmaster, are a discreet alternative (read Audio glasses without a camera).
3. Do you need a display?
Glasses with a display remain more expensive and rarer. Meta Ray-Ban Display arrives on 13 October 2026 in France, Germany and Italy, but Switzerland is not part of this first wave. For the vast majority of uses, glasses without a display are more than enough.
4. Your eyesight: prescription and frame shape
If you wear prescription glasses, check that the model accepts prescription lenses and choose a frame that suits your face. Ray-Ban Meta's Optics frames are designed for this: everything is explained in Smart glasses and prescription lenses.
5. Battery life and charging
Look at battery life in typical use, not just the maximum figure, and at what the charging case adds. The Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2, for example, quotes up to 8 hours, with a case that greatly extends use over the day.
6. Compatibility and assistant language
Smart glasses work through an app on your smartphone. Check iPhone and Android compatibility, as well as the language of the voice assistant. Some imported models, such as the Xiaomi AI Glasses sold in China, have a Chinese-language assistant that is of little use here.
7. Warranty and after-sales service
This is the main pitfall of importing: a model bought abroad may not be covered by a local warranty, and returning it is expensive. It is best to buy from a retailer that delivers to Switzerland and provides follow-up.
Our advice for a first pair
To get started, a pair of camera and AI smart glasses, in a style you would wear anyway, remains the best choice. Compare the models in our 2026 comparison, then discover our selection of smart glasses.
