Smart glasses and prescription lenses: what the Optics frames change

Until now, smart glasses were mostly designed as sunglasses, with prescription lenses added afterwards. At the end of March 2026, Meta and EssilorLuxottica unveiled two frames designed for vision from the outset: the Blayzer (rectangular) and the Scriber (round), brought together under the Optics name.

What changes for glasses wearers

• Extension hinges that follow the shape of the face more closely.
• Interchangeable nose pads and adjustable temple tips, so the optician can fit the frame like an ordinary pair.
• A wider prescription range: standard Ray-Ban Meta glasses were limited to ±6 dioptres; with Blayzer and Scriber, the limit now depends mainly on the optician. Orders placed directly on Meta's website, however, remain limited to ±6.

Why go through an optician

Fine adjustment of the frame and lens quality matter a great deal on a pair worn all day. Be aware that not all retailers offer prescription lenses. In Switzerland, for example, the journalist Xavier Studer notes that Sunrise does not let you order these glasses with a prescription, whereas partner opticians do.

The smart features stay the same

Camera, calls, open-ear music and Meta AI: the Optics frames keep the features of the range. You no longer have to choose between seeing well and enjoying smart glasses.
